Sharing

Sharing will start in September. Each child is assigned a share day. We strongly encourage your child to share each week, as it is a good opportunity to practice oral language skills.

In an effort to expose your children to several different types of oral presentations, we are going to have them do some different things each week on their day of presentation. Below is a brief description of what we expect each week:

Toy Share: Children bring in a toy hidden in a bag. They also must have three clues written about the toy. The objective is that after the "sharer" read the three clues, the rest of the class will be able to guess what is inside the bag. This makes it fun for everyone and keeps the momentum up so that all the children remain interested. Please remember, we do not share toy weapons of any kind or toys of a violent/warlike nature.

Book Share: Each child must share a favorite book. We would like children to be prepared to tell what the book is about, why they like the book, and show a favorite page.

Letter of the Week: Your child should bring something that begins with the letter of the week

Poetry/Song/Nursery Rhyme Share: Learning songs and poems are very important to pre-reading skills. Your child can pick a favorite song, poem, nursery rhyme to say/sing to the class. We recommend books by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutzky as great sources for children's poetry. Your children can even make up their own.

Homemade Share: This item should be something your child had made. They may share pictures, crafts, etc. and we would like them to be prepared to talk about how they made the item.

The children's share days are as follows (if we have a Monday or Friday holiday, children can share any day that week):
